Discover O Murito, the Gates of Valhalla in Ortegal

I don't know if I was looking for a moment of inner peace to heal and rediscover myself in a further attempt to heal some of the many wounds that fill the soul, but that afternoon I decided to take my backpack and enjoy the solitude walking along the road that connects Ortigueira with the Lagoa de San Martiño, passing through the famous Blue Trail, following the coast of the Ortigueira estuary.

I was walking alone between the vigorous meadows and the seashore, along the Sendero del Borde Litoral but, I felt accompanied by the murmurs of the wind and the murmur of the birds that came and went at dusk. I observed some birds fluttering among the branches of some trees, as if they were celebrating freedom and the beauty of life. Minutes later, from the Paseo A playa de Ortigueira, I could see a family of cormorants resting on a ledge, about to dive into the sea in search of their next catch. Those birds seemed to be messengers of nature itself and their message was a true reflection of my need to be reborn (what a beautiful word) and to launch myself towards new horizons.

Half a kilometre further on, walking along the road towards A Lagoa de San Martiño, a discreet and unnoticed path descends from the road on the left towards the seashore. Travelling by car it seems easy to leave it behind but the advantage of walking is that you can explore getting to every corner of Ortegal's rich and varied scenic beauty. Driven by my curiosity I decided to go down to the shore and discover what 'treasure' was hidden at the end of that path.

And there it was. A sanctuary of peace with an old and small jetty,

‘O Murito' is a corner of Ortegal that turns out to be an almost divine place. As soon as I arrived I felt as if I had been seated in a front row seat at the Great Celestial Theatre. On the stage, his highness THE SUN began its slow descent into the horizon, painting the sky with warm tones and whose soundtrack was the soft rhythmic beat of the tiny waves of the estuary timidly hitting the jetty posts. A sunset that fills the soul and the lungs with life as the last rays of the day slip through the golden cotton wool clouds.

O Murito is, without a doubt, one of those places where you experience a connection with nature in a different way. A vibrant and above all very intimate connection between oneself and creation. A connection that puts our eyes on the gates of Valhalla.
